Kroger has a great program for its customers in the money savings area. They have what they call the “Kroger Plus Card”. The way it works is quite simple. Every time you use the card when making a purchase in the store, whether it is for groceries, prescriptions or gift cards, you get ‘points’. You receive 1 point per dollar spent. When these points add up to 100 you get 10¢ off per gallon of gas at your next fill up at the gas pump. (You can also use the card at participating Shell stations.) There is a 35-gallon limit on the 10¢ discount per gallon offer per fill up.
There is no limit to how may points you can earn. When you purchase groceries, prescriptions or gift cards it will add up in a hurry. Plus, it only takes two prescriptions to get 100 points and all gift card purchases are doubled! (For instance a $50 gift card purchase gets you 100 Kroger Plus points or a 10¢ discount per gallon on your next tanks fill up…)
If you go over 100 points on your Kroger Plus Card, the extra points will remain on the card. As you shop at your Kroger store they will just be stored on the card. You can see how many points you have at the bottom of every receipt when you purchase items or you can go to Kroger.com and log in and find your balance there. The points accumulate and may be used at any time.
When using the card for purchases at a Shell station you cannot use the card as you do at Kroger. They do not have the scanner technology. To obtain the discount you at Shell you insert your large Kroger Plus Card or enter your loyalty card number found on the back of the card or key fob and then enter your alternate ID or phone number. The alternate ID number must be registered with Kroger in order to work correctly. (You can go to Kroger.com and update that info if you have not already done so.
The Kroger Plus Card must not be confused with a credit card or any type of merchant card. These cards are used by Kroger customers exclusively and the savings they receive amount to hundreds of dollars every year. Kroger customers love this program and are using it extensively to save money while doing what they normally do every day anyway.
